The simple language used in the lyrics of this song paint a powerful image of unencumbered joy and peace, but it’s the promise of cigarette trees that caught my attention many years ago when I first heard it. I imagine that seeing this place is like the feeling you get when you’ve reached your destination after a long exhaustive journey and it’s where I aim to be next, after this body dies and it’s time to move on again. If you come looking for me and you can’t find me anywhere, look near the lemonade springs on the Big Rock Candy Mountain. I’ll be there, listening to the bluebirds sing.
