Encaustic Mixed Media On Birch Panel
From the Artist: This mixed media piece was inspired by letters I discovered that my father wrote his parents while serving in war overseas. It symbolizes the distance he felt when he was homesick, the peace he sought when he came home and the life created in the shadow of his subsequent experiences following the war.
Framing available upon request.
From the Curator: The neutral brown tans of this work with turquoise teal layered over remind me of how copper ages or of an old photograph which has been damaged through the years but its still so important you hold on to it, despite the imperfections. The vintage aesthetic is further explored through the layers of writing and imagery reminding me of finding a botanist explorer’s field notes in a hidden trunk in the attic.
